El gerrymandering o reconfiguración de distritos es una práctica que se lleva a cabo en Estados Unidos cada 10 años, mediante la cual el partido que domina el estado modifica la forma de un distrito a su favor reagrupando zonas en las que se concentre el voto favorable a su partido y dispersando el del partido contrario en varios distritos. El Partido Republicano (PR) controla muchos más gobiernos estaduales y locales que el Partido Demócrata (PD). Además, históricamente ha sido mucho más agresivo que el Demócrata al llevar a cabo estos procesos. Aunque en vísperas de las elecciones de medio término de 2022 los gerrymandering llevados a cabo por ambos partidos fueron similares, al obtener los republicanos mayoría de sólo nueve asientos en la Cámara Baja, las ventajas obtenidas a través de este proceso, tanto en esta ocasión como en procesos anteriores, resultaron determinantes en la consecución de su victoria.
